Echolog SM broadcasts data from Simrad SM2000 FR echosounders as it is being stored by the SM2000 software. This allows any or all of the following to be done while the data are being logged:
live viewing in Echoview
lossless compression of the SM2000 FR files (*.raw, *.bfm, *.bmf, and *.nnn) into Myriax's *.SM2000 data format, potentially reducing SM2000 FR data storage by approximately 50%
You can run Echolog SM without an echosounder for evaluation, setup or demonstration purposes using Echosim SM.
Note: From Echoview 4.40, this program is no longer distributed or supported.
There are a number of possible configurations for Echolog SM. Below are two of the most common configurations.
The following diagram shows Echolog SM reading SM2000 FR files (*.raw, *.bfm, *.bmf and *.nnn) from the SM2000 survey folder and sending that information to Echoview for display and analysis.

The following diagram shows Echolog SM reading SM2000 FR *.raw, *.bfm, *.bmf and *.nnn files from the SM2000 survey folder, compressing them into Echoview .SM2000 files and sending the compressed data file information to Echoview for display and analysis.

Microsoft Windows offers power options on the control panel which can request system shutdown or hibernation after periods of inactivity. Echolog SM will disable these while it is running to ensure that logging is not interrupted.
