3D Raster Image Properties dialog box

The Import 3D Raster Image dialog box and 3D Raster Image Properties dialog boxes are identical.

To display the Import 3D Raster Image dialog box:

  1. On the File menu, click Import.
  2. In the Files of type list, click the required image type.
  3. Select the raster image file to import.
  4. Click Open.
  5. If the ESRI World File Interpretation dialog box is displayed:
    1. click Ignore file (to ignore the georeferencing data that has been read by Echoview), or
    2. click OK (to accept the georeferencing data that has been read by Echoview)
  6. If the GeoTIFF File Interpretation dialog box is displayed:
    1. click Skip (to ignore the georeferencing data in the file being imported, and enter the appropriate coordinates manually), or
    2. click OK (to accept the georeferencing data that was read from the GeoTIFF file)

To display the 3D Raster Image Properties dialog box:

  1. Display the (3D Object) Properties dialog box for a raster image object.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Click Raster Image Properties

These dialog boxes contain the following settings:

Settings

Description

File name

Displays the name and path of the raster image file you are importing.

Image name

Enter a name for the image. This name will be displayed on the Objects page of the Scene Properties dialog box.

North-west corner

For each section, enter:

  • the geographic position coordinates at which each corner of the raster image should be positioned.

  • the Depth in the water column at which each corner of the raster image should be positioned.

Notes:

  • If the ESRI World File Interpretation dialog box or GeoTIFF File Interpretation dialog box was displayed and you clicked OK, these settings are initialized with the values read from the ESRI world file or GeoTIFF file.

  • Geographic position units and values will differ depending on the projection currently selected in Echoview (on the Mapping page of the EV File Properties dialog box). Values entered into the Import 3D Raster Image dialog box should be in the units appropriate for the projection currently selected in Echoview (either degrees of latitude and longitude or meters of eastings and northings). See About degrees and minutes for further information.

  • Echoview will display a raster image with corner coordinates exactly as entered. Therefore, when these coordinates are within those of the current scene but do not correspond to the coordinates expected from the image dimensions, the raster image will be distorted. When entered coordinates are outside those of the current scene, the imported raster image will not be visible.

  • GeoTIFF images contain the geographic coordinates corresponding to image corners. This information may be read by utility programs, such as listgeo which is available from http://www.remotesensing.org/geotiff/geotiff.html

Transparent color

If the raster image includes areas that should be transparent in the scene, select this check box and select the color that was used in the raster image to represent transparent areas.

Note: This setting cannot be changed if the original file is deleted or moved.

Note: To view the imported raster image as a standalone 3D object you must add it to a scene. If you are using the raster image to color a surface you do not need to add it to scene, but will need to change the color properties of the surface.
