The Information dialog box displays information about a specific data point (sample) on single, dual and split beam echograms.
To display the Information dialog box:
Point to the data point (or ping or echogram) about which you want information.
On the Shortcut (right-click) menu, click Show information.
The information is displayed over the following pages:
The Datapoint page of the Information dialog box displays information about the data point you were pointing at when you displayed the Information dialog box. The information that is displayed depends on the type of echogram:
Sv value, TS value, Linear value, Value (dB), Boolean value, Current velocity value
Datapoint mid depth
Datapoint mid range
Minor-axis angle
Major-axis angle
Datapoint mid depth
Datapoint mid range
Red value
Green value
Blue value

The Target page of the Information dialog box is displayed for single target data only. It displays single target information about the data point you were pointing at when you displayed the Information dialog box. The information that is displayed includes:
TS value (dB)
Uncompensated TS value (dB)
Minor-axis angle (degrees)
Major-axis angle (degrees)
Target range or Target depth (m)
Pulse length at PLDL (normalized)
Pulse length at 6dB (normalized)
The Target length page is displayed for target length data only. It displays target length information about the data point you were pointing at when you displayed the Information dialog box. The information that is displayed includes:
Target length (cm) - calculated using compensated TS
Uncompensated target length (cm) - calculated using uncompensated TS.
Target range or Target depth (m)
For more information refer to About target properties.
The Ping page of the Information dialog box displays ping information about the ping you were pointing at when you invoked the Information dialog box. The information that is displayed includes:
|
Ping information |
Description |
|
Start range |
the range in meters of the first data point in the ping |
|
Data range |
the Stop range minus the Start range |
|
Stop range |
the range in meters of the last data point in the ping |
|
Number of data points |
the number of data points recorded in the ping |
|
Sounder-detected bottom range |
the range in meters of the sounder-detected bottom at this ping (if present) |
The Ping page may also display the Additional ping information from file box. This box lists ping-related parameters and displays the values that were stored in the data file for the selected ping. Echoview displays some of these values for your information only and uses other values in calculations and to adjust the data that are displayed on the echogram.
Note: If a parameter in the Additional ping information from file box also appears on the Calibration page of the Variables properties dialog box, Echoview does not automatically use the value displayed in the Additional ping information from file box. You must manually enter the value you want Echoview to use on the Calibration page of the Variables properties dialog box. Be aware that values shown on the Ping change may change from ping to ping while settings on the Calibration page are applied to the entire variable.
Additional ping information is displayed for variables derived from the following types of data files:

The File page of the Information dialog box contains the name of the data file from which the data point (sample) was derived. The File page is not displayed for virtual echograms.
The File page may display Additional information from file (used by Echoview). These values are extracted from the data file by Echoview and are used to calculate the data that are displayed on the echogram.
Additional file information is displayed for variables derived from the following types of data files:

Note: Excerpt from DT4 Data File Format Specification (August, 2004) p8: "The absorption and sound velocity values in the header are unreliable and should not be used. In particular, a single absorption value for all data channels, which may include transducers of different frequencies, is not appropriate. Instead, the proper values should be either provided by the user, or calculated using standard formulas based on the environmental conditions. You can use the temperature and salinity values present in this tuple and the frequency values present in channel descriptor tuples."
