Sonar modules pictorial

The Sonar modules offer a suite of graded features to suit data from Imaging, Multibeam and Scanning sonars.

When this module is licensed but other modules are not licensed, restricted and/or time limited Echoview features from other modules are available under demonstation mode.

Please contact sales@echoview.com for information about this module's pricing and prerequisites.

Virtual variable operators, Single target and Fish tracking features

Use selected Virtual variable operators to process, visualize and analyze. As described in our tutorial Introduction to DIDSON data processing

Use of these operators:

For a fixed platform:

  • Beam select
  • Multibeam target detection
  • Target conversion
  • Maximum intensity

And:

  • Sample statistic subtract
  • Median of N pings
  • Mean of N previous pings
  • Beam median (3x3)
  • Beam erosion (3x3)

  • Beam dilation (3x3)
  • Beam convolution (3x3)
  • Beam opening (3x3)
  • Beam closing (3x3)

1 Background object removal, Noise reduction; 2 Target enhancement; 3 Multibeam target detection; 4 Conversion to Single target data format, Single target display, Single target manipulation operators, Fish track detection and editing; and 5 Onscreen fish track analysis and export of data.

3D Sonar 2D Sonar

Additional features under the 2D sonar module

Includes all features for the Stationary sonar module for both stationary and mobile platforms.

And these features:

1
Echogram view displays Beam select virtual variable (beam 7) of ME70 multibeam data.

  • Use this and 22+ operators that apply to multibeam data. The Bottom surface in Fig 3 was created from a dataflow that used these operators:

2
Multibeam echogram view of ME70 data.

  • By-ping schools detection on one ping. The detected school is outlined in black.

You also can:

  • View and export multibeam analysis variables (see inset of Fig 3).
  • Export data from multibeam echograms.

3
4D Scene (3D + time).

  • Create a 3D curtain from Fig 1.
  • The By-ping school detection in Fig 2. creates a (white) 3D region across the beam fan.
  • Onscreen morphometric properties of the 3D region (see inset).
  • Onscreen integration results are available for the 3D region (see inset).
  • Create a Bottom surface from processed ME70 data.

You also can use 3D region track detection.

4
4D Scene (3D + time).

  • Create a 3D multibeam curtain group to reveal the potential schools in the data. A curtain for every tenth ping is shown.
  • A created Bottom surface, and an imported cruise track raster (generated by a Echoview cruise track image export) are also displayed.

You also can:

  • Export 3D regions from scenes to geo-referenced image files.
  • Export region inspection data.

3D Sonar

Additional features under the 3D sonar module

Includes all features for the 2D sonar module and these features:

Detect schools over multiple pings in data from stationary or mobile platforms. 3D regions can be detected with or without vacuoles.

(Far left) Powerful visualization of the results of two 3D school detections. 3D regions are composed of samples across the beam fan and over multiple pings. Extensive onscreen size, shape and integration information feeds into your further analysis needs.

The red 3D regions are detected with a threshold set at -45 dB.

The red regions appear within grey 3D regions detected with a threshold set at -60 dB.
