About Echodepth

Echodepth displays the sounder-detected bottom depth in data being broadcast by Echolog 500 or Echolog 60. It can display the sounder-detected depth from up to four transducers simultaneously.

Warning: Echodepth is not a navigational tool and should not be used for that purpose.

Using Echodepth

Data requirements

Echolog 500

Echodepth can only display sounder-detected bottom depths from an Echolog 500 broadcast if Echolog 500 is receiving Depth (D) or Q telegrams.

See: EK500 and EA500 setup for Echolog 500, and Ex60 setup for Echolog 500

Echolog 60

Echodepth can only display sounder-detected bottom depths from data being broadcast by Echolog 60 if .out or .bot files are being logged. See Ex60 setup for Echolog 60.

Starting Echodepth

Start Echodepth from the Windows Start menu. If Echolog 500 or Echolog 60 is running and is broadcasting the required data, Echodepth will display the sounder-detected bottom depth of the data that are currently being read.

Entering Echodepth settings

The Settings dialog box is used to enter settings that determine how Echodepth operates.

To display the Settings dialog box:

  1. Point to the Echodepth title bar and right-click.

  2. On the Shortcut menu, choose Settings.

Select this checkbox if you want Echodepth to remain visible at all times.

Display persistence (seconds)

Enter the length of time for which Echodepth should continue to display the sounder-detected bottom depth if no other depth information is received.

Echolog equipment name

If more than one copy of Echolog (500 and/or 60) is running on your network, in the box, enter the name of the equipment that is running the copy to which you want Echodepth to listen.

Checking network Information

The Network Information dialog box is used to display basic network related information and can be used to help diagnose communications problems.

To display the Network Information dialog box:

Description

Computer name

Displays the name of the computer on which Echodepth is running.

IP address

Displays the IP address of the computer on which Echodepth is running.

Ethernet (MAC) address

Displays the Ethernet address of the computer on which Echodepth is running.

Listening to UDP port

Displays the UDP port on which Echodepth is listening for incoming data.

Echodepth display

Echodepth displays the sounder-detected depth for the display persistence time only. If no depth data are received in this period no depth is displayed (the area is blank).

If a telegram with 0 or negative detected bottom depth was received by Echodepth, a series of dashes (---) is displayed. This suggests that an attempt to detect the bottom was made, but failed, as opposed to a blank area which indicates no attempt to detect the bottom was made.
