New for users of data from Simrad echosounders

Note: Simrad is a subsidiary of Kongsberg. See also New for users of Kongsberg echosounders

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 4.60 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad echosounders.

Analysis export module enhancement - TS to Sv and Sv to TS operators

The Analysis export module license now allows you to use TS to Sv and Sv to TS operators. This facilitates the creation of a virtual variable (derived from EK500 data) suitable for single target detection.

Performance improvements for Ex60 data file reading and echogram display

Echoview file reading and echogram display times for Ex60 data have improved significantly. The improvements also affect Ex60 data files logged with Echolog 60 and ME70 raw data files.

Simrad raw variables with expanded bottom - a change in ping geometry

A bug affecting Simrad raw variables with expanded bottom has been fixed.

The bug left pings at low resolution when a sounder-detected bottom was not recorded for the ping. Pings are now upsampled to the higher resolution whether or not there's a sounder-detected bottom present. The correction applies automatically to all affected data formats. Where .ek5 EVI files exist, the EVI files are updated automatically.

The file formats affected are:

  • BI500 data files (-ping, -vlog, -data, -info, -work)

  • EY500 data, and EK500 data logged with Simrad EP500 software (.dgn)

  • Ex500 and Ex60 data logged with Echolog 500 (.ek5)

  • EK500 telegrams logged with Simrad ER60 software (.DG)

  • CSIRO data files (*.raw)

ek5 EVI files are created for .dgn, .ek5, .DG and .raw file formats.

For information about file formats refer to Simrad echosounder data files.

For information about raw variables with expanded bottoms refer to Raw variables derived from Simrad data.

Correction to text associated with choosing a calibration offset

The discussion about Sv gain in Ex60 data has been corrected and clarified. The correction affected the text for the Sv gain and does not affect any related equations or calculations. For more information refer to Choosing a calibration offset for Sv to TS and TS to Sv conversion - Simrad Ex60 data.
