New for users of data from Simrad echosounders

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 12 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad echosounders.

Simrad EK80 EC150-3C *.raw file format

Introducing *.raw file format support for echosounder data recorded by Simrad EK80 EC150-3C transducers.

Simrad ME70 *.raw file format

Introducing *.raw file format support for echosounder data recorded by Simrad ME70 version 1.4.0 software.

Simrad SH90 *.raw file format, updated support

Echoview has updated file format support for Simrad SH90 *.raw files with a changed file structure. Echoview can read such files, however, calibration values that vary within the same ping are not supported.

Sound speed depth profile enhancements

Sound speed depth profile support is added for Simrad EK80 FM data.

Sound speed depth profile support is extended to the Simrad Ex60 and Simrad EK80 CW and FM Sv volume term.

Simrad EK80 Details - Ping (from file)

Details - Ping (from file) include:

  • Recording Mode read from the data file
  • transceiver and transducer details

Correction to TransducerGain calculations in Simrad EK80 wideband data recorded with FileFormatVersion 1.2.

A design change is made for the calculation of TS and Sv for Simrad EK80 wideband data recorded with FileFormatVersion 1.2. Previously, TS and Sv wideband data used the incorrect lookup value for PulseDuration and subsequently used an incorrect TransducerGain.

We recommend checking data files and recalculating any Sv, TS or single target-based analyses in the latest version of Echoview if you are affected by this problem.

This issue does not affect:

  • TS or Sv data if:
    • an ECS file was used to override the transducer gain value read from the data file
    • a full wideband calibration was performed and frequency-dependent calibration corrections are included in the raw data file
  • EK80 files that are FileFormatVersion earlier than 1.2
  • Narrowband (CW) EK80 data
  • Any other file formats

EK80 Sv, TS and angular position equations

Updated documentation for EK80 CW and FM equations and the Calibration settings page.

Updated the determination of EK80 angular position as detailed in 'Simrad EK80 Wide band scientific echo sounder Interface Specifications Release 2.0.0'.

Simrad ES80 and Echosim 80

Echosim 80 supports Simrad ES80 *.raw data files.

CalibrationOffsetSv, CalibrationOffsetTs and TSOffsetTableWideband

The generic calibration CalibrationOffsetSv and CalibrationOffsetTs and the new setting TSOffsetTableWideband are now handled for Simrad Ex60 Sv and TS, Simrad EK80 Sv and TS (for CW and FM), and Simrad ME70 Sv, TS and Sv pings formed beam data.

Simrad Ex60 and EK80 support for NMEA $INVTG heading data

Introducing support for NMEA $INVTG heading data for the following file formats: Simrad EX 60 and Simrad EK80 (also through Simrad EK80 support, Kongsberg EA640).

Upward facing Simrad EK80 CW data and SoundSpeed-profile corrections

Upward facing Simrad EK80 CW data is adjusted by a SoundSpeed-profile however some additional corrections are required when there is a negative start range and a positive transducer vertical offset. Please review your data if this is the case. See also Using sound speed profile data: Notes.
