New for Simrad users

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 16 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad echosounders.

Simrad EK80 RxSamplingFrequency bug fix

Fixed a file reading issue with Simrad EK80 data files that contained a RxSamplingFrequency of zero. The derived variables had some missing calibration values.

Echocheck support for XML0, MRU0, and MRU1 packets

Kongsberg has updated the ME70 and MS70 file formats to include XML0 and MRU0 packets, which are now supported by Echocheck. Support for MRU1 packets has also been added to the Kongsberg ME70 and MS70 file formats.

Kongsberg EK80 recorded complex to power/angle bug fix

Fixed an error in how transmission characteristic raw variables were derived from Kongsberg EK80 data recorded using the complex-to-power/angle replay option in Kongsberg's data acquisition software. These variables now derive correctly under a single transducer source and include additional packet information. Previously, impedance (transmission characteristic) data could appear under the wrong transducer label (e.g., T1 vs T2).

Files recorded with Kongsberg's Split as Single license may legitimately contain both RAW3 and RAW4 datagrams for troubleshooting; Echoview now derives the transmission characteristics correctly from these packets. Users working with such unusually recorded files should take care to understand the nature of the derived variables.

EK80 power/angle ECS bug fix

An update to the creation of ECS files for EK80 data, draws on the superset of calibration settings for the data source. Previously, Echoview used only the first calibration set in the data file for that source. This approach failed to include the SaCorrection setting for power/angle data when multiple data packets recorded the same ping. The new behavior ensures SaCorrection is included when present.

NMEA PFEC sentence and derived pitch and roll bug fix

A bug affecting the interpretation of NMEA PFEC sentences is fixed. Previously, derived pitch and roll data were reversed. This bug may affect Simrad data that recorded NMEA PFEC sentences.

Temporarily suspended support for Kongsberg EC150-3C data files

Support for data recorded by the Kongsberg EC150-3C echosounder/ADCP transducer has been temporarily removed from Echoview due to calculation errors, and will be reintroduced when resolved. Please contact support@echoview.com to request immediate notification of the future fix.

Transmission characteristic variables

Support is removed for deriving transmission characteristic variables from data recorded by Kongsberg EK80 EC150-3C and GPT transceivers.

Simrad SH80 .dzt file loading bug fix

Simrad SH80 .dzt files now load correctly, a bug prevented valid Simrad SH80 .dzt files from being read.
