New in Echoview 3.30
for users of data from Simrad echosounders

Note: Simrad is a subsidiary of Kongsberg. See also New for users of Kongsberg echosounders.

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 3.30 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad echosounders.

Ex60 Sample range reduced by one sample thickness

Echoview 3.25 and earlier calculated the range of Ex60 samples assuming that the first sample was at a range of one sample interval (sample thickness) from the transducer. Simrad have informed us that the first sample is in fact at the transducer face, i.e. at a range of 0m. Echoview 3.30 implements this. Hence all samples should be one sample thickness closer to the transducer than was implemented in Echoview 3.25 and earlier. This difference has been announced previously (Echoview News November 2004, Echoview News December 2004) along with a work-around that was required to correctly calculate Sv and TS.

As a consequence of correcting this range some EV files will need to be modified when they are opened in Echoview 3.30. This may cause some extra work in upgrading, but ensures that Echoview interprets Ex60 data as Simrad intended and we apologize for any inconvenience. Please contact Echoview support if you have any questions or concerns when modifying your EV files.

This change affects variables derived from Ex60 sample data saved in EV files created by Echoview 3.25 or earlier and are now being scrutinized or analysed using Echoview 3.30 or later.

Specifically that means the following raw variables and all virtual variables which derive from them:

Variables derived from Ex60 .raw files or Echolog 60 .ek60 or .ek6 files:

    • Sv raw pings Tt

    • TS raw pings Tt

    • angular position raw pings Tt

Variables derived from Ex60 .DG files or Echolog 500 .ek5 files:

    • angular position Bt telegrams Tt

    • Sv Wt telegrams (power) Tt

    • Sv Vt telegrams Tt

    • TS Wt telegrams (power) Tt

    • TS Pt telegrams Tt

No other data is affected.

If your data is affected, see Changes to Simrad Ex60 Sample Range Calculation for a detailed discussion on the issues you should consider.
