New in Echoview 3.45 for all users

Welcome to Echoview 3.45!

This version of Echoview completes the delivery of a set of features promised to users of the Furuno FSV30R scanning sonar and delivers general Echoview enhancements in the areas of automation and visualization. A number of enhancements requested by specific individuals have been added and we hope that they will prove to be of general use. Our favorite three new features are: the ability to view 3D echogram curtains in real time; a new 'formula' operator for defining your own data manipulation operators; and the ability to automatically add data files to EV files using scripts.

New features are presented in two categories:

New features for all users
New features for users of specific echosounders

Feature

Benefit

Formula operator

This new operator allows you create a mathematical formula to operate on a single beam echogram and create a virtual variable. Formula elements include mathematical expressions, ping number, sample number and data value at a specified ping and sample number.

See About the Formula operator for more information.

Enhancement for Resample operators

All resample operators now allow for the weighted resampling of data proportionate to bin inclusion. This removes artifacts introduced by very small vertical bin sizes.

Note: This enhancement is in beta release.

Fish length operator

Use the new Fish length operator to create a single target variable that reports the estimated length of each detected fish in place of its Target Strength. Examine fish lengths by Exporting target length data or viewing a Length vs. Depth graph or a Length Frequency distribution graph.

See Fish length operator for more information.

New scripting features

Use new automated processing commands to save time.

  • Use a script to create new EV files from a template. You can run a script based on a template that exports results without needing to first create an EV file.

  • You can now add and remove data files from EV files through scripts.

See Using the scripting module (deprecated scripting model for Echoview 5.0) for more information.

New Message bar tool A new Message bar tool to display and manage warning messages and error messages that are generated during the course of Echoview's operation.

Interface enhancements

These enhancements give you more control over Echoview's workspace and makes your work easier by giving you easily accessible information about your data.

New Export variables

These new export variables convey information to make your data analyses even easier.

Span gaps option for lines

You can now create new lines with no gaps in them using the Span gaps option on the New Editable Line dialog box. This is especially useful for patching gaps in your sounder-detected bottoms.

Auto-synchronize single beam and multibeam echograms

An enhancement to the auto-synchronized groups feature means that you can now add both single beam echograms and multibeam echograms to an auto-synchronized group, allowing for auto-synchronization between single beam and multibeam echograms.

Graph pings of angle data

You can now create ping graphs from angle data.

Thickness mean for single target echograms

You can now combine the average thickness/height of single targets with the Num_targets and Wedge_volume_sampled variables to produce biomass density estimates from single target data.

See Thickness mean for more information.

3D Region inspection

Examine the internal structure of 3D regions (fish schools) in detail. Discover the internal distribution of fish density inside of schools.

See About 3D Region inspection for more information.

Platform referenced scene display

Follow your ship (platform) along a cruise track, see your data in a new light and take the opportunity to find new insights. Observe 3D regions, echogram curtains and bottom surfaces as they pass in space and time. This new feature replaces the Flythrough feature.

See Controlling scene animation with a 3D cruise track for more information.

Live echogram curtains on scenes

This tool gives you real time 3D echogram curtains during a survey! You will be able to visualize the distribution of backscatter in the area you are surveying while you are surveying. This is ideal for adaptive surveys, especially for small areas. When combined with a C-MAP chart or other source of bathymetry you will be able to see the fish in their environment as you survey. In addition, this feature allows gaps in echogram data to be spanned in a scene for post processing.

See About live viewing for more information.
