Scene Properties dialog box

The Scene Properties dialog box is used to create and edit scenes in an EV file. You can choose the display settings for the scene including which 3D objects to display, the color scheme and the vertical exaggeration.

To display the Scene Properties dialog box from the Scene window:

  1. On the Scene menu, click Scene Properties
  2. -OR-
  3. F8
  4. -OR-
  5. Click the Scene Properties button scene properties tool on the Windows and dialogs toolbar.

To display the Scene Properties dialog box from the Dataflow window:

  1. Click a Scene object, on the Shortcut menu select Scene Properties or use F8.

The Scene Properties dialog box has three pages:

General page

The General page of the Scene Properties dialog box is used to adjust the display settings for the selected scene.

Settings

Description

Name

The name of the scene as it will be displayed on other menus and dialogs.

See also: Supported characters for names.

Vertical exaggeration

Allows you to change the appearance of the scene.

  • 1.0 will display the scene without exaggeration.
This is the best choice if the scene includes multibeam curtains, which will otherwise undergo some distortion.
  • 1.5 is a good general choice for terrain models.
(a higher value may be better if there is low relief)
  • 2.0 to 4.0 is a good choice for a scene including single beam curtains.
This will exaggerate the vertical scale of the echogram similar to the way a single beam echogram does.

Object coloring by depth

Applies the selected color scheme and scene depth scale to all 3D objects in the scene.

This only applies to 3D objects for which scene depth scale is selected as the display color method on the General page of the 3D Object Properties dialog box.

The following settings are available:

Color display minimum depth

Sets the depth below which any part of an object will be displayed in the Below threshold color of the selected color scheme.

Color display depth range

Sets the range of depth values which are mapped to the selected color scheme. Any part of an object above (Color display minimum depth + Color display depth range) will be displayed in the color schemes Above (threshold + range) color.

Color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized echogram color schemes.

User-defined color schemes can be created and edited with the Echocolor application supplied with Echoview. If you add, remove or change the color-scheme files in this folder you will need to restart Echoview before those changes take effect.

Note: If a custom color scheme has the same name as a predefined color scheme, its name will have " (.evc file)" appended to it to denote this. See About color schemes for further information.

Show object bounding boxes

Select this checkbox to display a bounding box around each 3D object in the scene. Bounding box dimensions are displayed when you view the 3D Object Properties dialog box for a 3D region.

See also: An example of a bounding box.

3D projection

Select either Orthographic or Perspective. See About 3D projections.

Background color

Displays the background color for the scene window and for printing. Click Change to select a new color on the Color dialog box.

Objects page

The Objects page of the Scene Properties dialog box is used to choose which 3D objects to display in the scene.

Settings

Description

View these 3D objects

3D objects in the EV file are listed in this section.

Select the checkboxes for objects you want to view in this scene.

Clear the checkboxes for objects you don't want to view in this scene.

Notes:

  • Individual 3D regions are not listed, they are listed by their class. Also individual multibeam ping curtains are not listed, they are listed by their group. See About 3D objects.
  • The scene object Water surface is a plane that represents the water surface.
  • The scene object Cruise track is a line that represents the cruise track. It starts with an open colored circle and ends with a gray circle. The section of the cruise track within the current scene time window, if any, is highlighted and the platform is displayed on it (at the current platform position).
  • The platform is represented by a triangle. It is visible only if the cruise track is displayed and the scene time is within the bounds of the cruise track.

One apex of the triangle is on the cruise track at the position of the platform at the current scene time and points in the direction of the platform's heading (see the Attitude page of the Platform Properties dialog box).

To view or change the properties of a 3D object, highlight the 3D object and click Properties (not active for all 3D object types).

For a description of 3D object types, see About 3D objects.

Analysis page

The Analysis page of the Scene Properties dialog box is used to define which variable, integration algorithm and vessel speed to use when analyzing a 3D region.

Settings

Description

Analysis Variable

Select an Sv variable which you would like to associate with this scene for the purposes of integration analyses. Any 3D regions in this scene which intersect with the selected Sv variable can then be analyzed.

Integration algorithm

Select the desired 3D integration algorithm.

Vessel speed

Select the desired vessel speed to be used with the selected Integration algorithm.

Notes page

The Notes page of the Scene Properties dialog box is used to record additional information for saving with the scene.
