Grid page

The Grid page of the Variable Properties dialog box or the Variable Properties - Multiple Variables Selected dialog box is used to enter settings for the display, integration and export of cells grid. The same grid is used for display on the echogram, alongtrack display and for analyses over cells.

Note: A grid is currently not supported for multibeam echograms with a 360 degree sector angle.

Display and analysis grid

Use these settings to toggle the grid lines on an echogram and the Interval numbering (see About interval and layer numbers) in your export files.

Settings

Description

Show time/distance grid

Choose the grid type for the echogram's vertical axis (a.k.a intervals)

  • None
  • Time (minutes)
  • GPS distance (nmi)
  • Vessel log distance (nmi)
  • Ping number
  • GPS distance (m)
  • Vessel log distance (m)
  • Water current distance (m)1
  • Time (hours)
  • Time (days)

Depending on your selection, specify one of the

  • Time between grid lines (minutes/hours/days)
  • A number between 0.01 and 99999.99/9999.99/99.99

  • Distance between grid lines (nmi/m)
  • A number between 0.01 and 10000.0

  • Number of pings between grid lines
  • An integer between 1 and 10000

Unevenly spaced grid lines result from variations in the ping geometry. By default, Echoview draws distance-based grid lines according to the GPS fixes, the vessel log or speed data. See also About interval and layer numbers in export files.

Select Start interval numbering from the first ping in the echogram to align the grid lines relative to the first ping. Setting this will affect the Dist_S, Dist_M, Dist_E, VL_end, VL_mid and VL_start.

An assigned transect group affects the distribution of intervals. Refer to Transects and intervals.

1This is primarily for fixed platforms. The speed data file in the water current setting on the Platform Properties dialog box configures the grid lines.

Show depth/range/line-referenced grid

Choose grid type from the list to apply a depth/range grid to the echogram, then specify the Separation (m) between the grid lines.

The grid separation depends on the Echogram mode. It is applied as a depth separation when the echogram is in depth mode and is applied as a range separation when the echogram is in range mode. See About depth, range and altitude.

These settings define the layers reported in the analysis export.

Notes:

  • Layers are numbered relative to the Depth/range/Line-referenced setting. The name of line can be exported as the analysis variable Grid_reference_line. This and related analysis variables can be specified under the Analysis Domain group on the Export page of the EV File Properties dialog box.
  • A hidden line becomes visible when it is selected as a grid reference-line.

Depth/range/Line-referenced grid list

Description

Transducer face (range of zero)

Available when the Echogram mode is set to Range.

Range (m) is measured from the line Transducer face (range of zero).

Transducer face (range of zero) is equivalent to the Range Grid option available in versions prior to Echoview 5.

Water surface (depth of zero)

Available when the Echogram mode is set to Depth.

Depth (m) is measured from the surface specified by the Z coordinate of the water level on the Position page of the Platform Properties dialog box.

Water surface (depth of zero) is equivalent to the Depth Grid option available in versions prior to Echoview 5.

Line-reference

Names of available lines in the EV file.
