Echogram Display page

The Echogram Display page of the Variable Properties dialog box is used to control the way data is displayed in echogram windows.

Note: Different display pages are displayed for acoustic variables displayed in an alongtrack cruise track and position or bottom point variables displayed as cruise tracks.

The settings in the following sections are available:

Sections for all acoustic variables (Echogram)

The Echogram Display page may also be displayed for selected multiple variables (on the Dataflow window).

Echogram colors

The Echogram colors section is used to define the colors used in displaying echograms.

Acoustic variables

Settings

Description

Color display minimum

Sets the value below which all data values will be displayed in the Below threshold color of the selected color scheme.

Note: If the minimum threshold specified on the Data page is higher than the Color display minimum specified here, the data threshold specified on the Data page will define the lowest value displayed.

The keyboard shortcuts, F11 and F12, will adjust this value when used in an echogram window.

Color display range

Sets the range of data values which are mapped to the selected color scheme. All values above (Color display minimum + Color display range) will be displayed in the color schemes Above (threshold + range) color.

Color Scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized echogram color schemes.

User-defined color schemes can be created and edited with the Echocolor application supplied with Echoview. If you add, remove or change the color-scheme files in this folder you will need to restart Echoview before those changes take effect.

Note: If a custom color scheme has the same name as a predefined color scheme, its name will have " (.evc file)" appended to it to denote this. See About color schemes for further information.

To select a color response curve click . The default color response is linear.

Use alternate color scheme

Select the Use alternate color scheme box to use the alternative color scheme for the echogram.

Background color

Background color is only available for multibeam variables. Click the Color box to specify a background color.

Angular position variables

Settings

Description

Minor-axis angle range

Enter the range of minor-axis beam angles to display. The values you enter must be between 0.01 and 90 degrees.

Minor- axis color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized color schemes. See note below.

Major-axis angle range

Enter the range of major-axis beam angles to display. The values you enter must be between 0.01 and 90 degrees.

Major-axis color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized color schemes. See note below.

Notes:

Echogram display limits

The Echogram display limits section is used to set the upper and lower display limits for the echogram.

Settings

Description

Automatically set the display limits based on the loaded pings

Select this setting when you want the echogram to display data from the entire sample range. This setting accommodates new (added) data and new EV files based on templates.

Variables in new EV files select this setting by default.

Note: The Display limits can change as you scroll the echogram. This may occur when Echoview draws pings which have a bigger range than previous pings.

Manually set the display limits

Select this setting when you want to specify the sample display range.

Upper display limit Defines the smallest depth/range displayed in the echogram.
Lower display limit Defines the largest depth/range displayed in the echogram.

Upper and lower display limits are entered in meters and will apply to either depth or range depending on the mode selected on the Echogram page of the EV File Properties dialog box.

The upper and lower display limits cannot be overridden by zooming out. To see parts of the echogram outside the currently displayed limits the above settings must be changed.

Integram

Settings

Description

Integram analysis

Choose an integram analysis to display in the integram area of the echogram. You can choose from:

  • Ping status
  • Mean Sv (on Sv echograms only)
  • Maximum Sv (on Sv echograms only)
  • Bottom classification (on Sv echograms only)

For more information refer to About the integram and Using the integram.

Integram feature Sv threshold (dB)

Displays the Integram Sv threshold value and the condition applied to the value. These settings are used to locate particular pings with the Next integram value / Previous integram value feature from the Shortcut menu.

Available settings:

Setting

Description

Condition

greater than

Find the next pings that are greater than the Integram Sv threshold value.

less than

Find the next pings that are less than the Integram Sv threshold value.

Integram Sv threshold value (dB)

Value for the Integram Sv threshold.

Notes:

  • The Next integram value / Previous integram value feature shifts the echogram to and displays a marker around the value or values that satisfy the Integram Sv threshold condition and value.
  • The Mean Sv analysis and Maximum Sv analysis are affected by the Exclude Above and Exclude Below settings on the Analysis page of the Variable Properties dialog box.
  • For more information refer to About the integram and Using the integram.
  • Integram keyboard shortcuts.

Bottom classification variable

Use the list to specify the variable for the Bottom classification integram that is displayed on the Sv echogram. For further information refer to About bottom classification.

Other

The Other display options for echograms may include:

Settings

Description

Echogram reference line

Available for the display of single beam echograms only.

Flattens the specified reference line and displays it as a horizontal line on the echogram. Use the Reference line list to specify an Echogram reference line. See also About lines: Echogram reference line.

Integration line

Choose to display an Integration line for the data in an Integration rectangle on the echogram.

You can choose from:

Integration line

Description

None

No Integration line displayed

In window

Display an Integration line for the data in the visible window.

In intervals

Display an Integration line for the data in an interval. The integration rectangle is defined by the height of the visible window and the width of the interval.

In cells

Display an Integration line for the data in a cell.

Note: While the echogram or the Variable Properties dialog box is active, you can change the Integration rectangle (successively) using CTRL+SHIFT+I

To choose the color of the Integration line

  1. Click the colored square beside Integration line.

  2. Select a basic color or create a custom color.

  3. Click OK.

See Integration line algorithm for more information.

Flip echogram vertically

Choose to flip the echogram so that depth/range = 0 m is at the bottom of the window. Values increase as you move up the window.

Sections for single target variables

Single target display

Refer to the Single target settings section on the Data page of the Variable Properties dialog box.

Sections for multibeam variables (echogram)

Multibeam display

Settings may include:

Setting

Description

Show multibeam bottom preview

Select this check box to display a preview of the bottom detection on multibeam echograms. A circular mark is drawn on the each sample which is detected as the bottom, in the center of the side nearest the transducer.

Flip vertically

Select this check box to display range/depth = 0 m at the bottom of the multibeam echogram window.

See also Sound Metrics notes: Imaging sonar lens mount orientation.

Flip horizontally

Select this check box to rotate the multibeam echogram 180 degrees in the horizontal plane. Beams and beam numbering read from highest (left) to lowest (right).

See also Sound Metrics notes: Imaging sonar lens mount orientation.

Show direction labels

Select this check box to show the direction of the beam numbering for the sector plot. This setting is a useful orientation cue when you use Flip horizontally.

Show target outlines

Select this check box to display outlines around the targets detected in multibeam target detection.

Show target sample outlines

Select this check box to display outlines around the samples included in detected multibeam targets.

This setting can be toggled with a user-defined shortcut.

Show input data under targets

Select this check box to display the input data for the detected multibeam targets.

This setting can be toggled with a user-defined shortcut.

Show target class labels

Clear this check box to hide target class labels for detected multibeam targets.

for H-mode variables only, following option is also available:

Orientation

Select either North up or Head up.

If North up is selected then the echogram will be oriented such that geographic north is in the upwards on the screen.

If Head up is selected then the echogram will be oriented such that heading of the vessel is in the upwards direction on the screen.

The beam numbering in either case is instrument specific.
