New Virtual Surface dialog box
This dialog box is used to create new virtual variables, virtual lines or virtual surfaces.
No Selected variable
To display the New Virtual Variable dialog box:
- On the View menu, click Dataflow to display the Dataflow window.
- On the Shortcut menu (right-click), click New and select Variable... or Virtual Line... or Virtual Surface...
- - OR -
- On the Dataflow menu, click New and select Variable... or Virtual Line... or Virtual Surface...
Selected variable
To display the New Virtual Variable dialog box:
- On the Dataflow window, select a variable (a raw or virtual, variable or line or surface).
- On the Shortcut menu (right-click), click New and select Variable... or Virtual Line... or Virtual Surface...
Create new variable overview
In the Variable... or Virtual Line... or Virtual Surface... dialog box:
- Under Select operator, use the Filter and Selected variable information/settings to find and select an operator.
- Under the New virtual variable section, in the Name box, enter a name for the new variable.
- Click OK.
- Complete the Operands page of the Variable Properties dialog box.
- Click OK.
Notes:
- An operator name with the icon of a hare indicates that the operator is optimized for multi-threading.
- Greyed-out operators are unavailable but their description can be viewed.
- When an operator requires two or more operands for input, only pings with the same ping geometry will be used to create the virtual variable. See Using multiple operands for more information.

Select operator This section enables text and data type filtering, and displays operator licensing, multi-threading and operator description information so that you can find suitable operators and discover new operators. |
Filter | The Filter box accepts text and uses it to filter all Echoview operators. Filtering by operator name, operator description and Selected variable information and settings. |
Selected variable This section is available when the method of creation begins with a selected variable. |
Name | Name of the Selected variable. |
Data type | Data type of the Selected variable. | |
Show only operators that can accept the selected variable's data type | Select to filter the operator list with respect to the Selected variable Data type. | |
New virtual variable | Name | Enter the name of the new virtual variable or virtual line or virtual surface. |
