About selections

Echoview uses selections on an echogram to perform a variety of processing tasks.

Selections on echograms

To make a selection on an echogram, choose one of the selection tools on the toolbar.

Draw a selection on the echogram in the manner appropriate to the selected tool and release the mouse when the desired area has been selected.

You can extend a selection past the visible portion of a window by holding down the left mouse button and scrolling using the keyboard shortcuts.

To discard the selection:

  • click on any area of the echogram outside the selection; or
  • press ESC; or
  • On the Shortcut menu (right-click), click Clear selection.

Selection movement while live viewing

To make a selection on an echogram that will update its vertical boundary while live viewing, choose one of the rectangular shaped selection tools (including the Vertical band tool) on the toolbar.

Draw a selection on the echogram in the manner appropriate to the selected tool and release the mouse when the desired area has been selected.

On the Echogram menu, point to Selection Movement and click the desired movement for the selection.

The following movements are offered:

Movement

Description

Stationary

The selection remains stationary.

Extending

The left vertical boundary of the selection is fixed in time and the right vertical boundary moves1.

Advancing

The left and right vertical boundaries of the selection move1 and the width of the selection remains constant.

1. Moving boundary: A vertical boundary on the selection whose position is fixed relative to the latest live viewing ping.

Note: Graphs that are linked to the moving selection will also update.
