About time series data

A time series consists of a set of measurements and their measurement times. Range/depth line (time series) and other time series settings are accessed via the Time Series Properties dialog box.

Range- and depth-based lines

Echoview raw, editable, and virtual lines associated with range or depth in the water column are displayed on echograms, graphs, and tables. These line variables represent features such as seafloor, heave, or altitude, and are considered spatial rather than temporal data. They can be visualized using the Line graph, which plots their values against time or ping number.

For further information refer to About range or depth lines and Data types: Lines.

Other time series

Raw and virtual time series are displayed on cruisetrack windows, graphs and tables. These time series data values may be circular, linear or stepped. The rendering style is determined by the time series type’s estimation method.

Angular time series (Heading, Pitch, Roll) use a unified circular interpolation method. Values are automatically unwrapped before interpolation to ensure the shortest rotational path between measurements, then wrapped back into their defined range (−180° to 180°, or 0° to 360°). This avoids discontinuities when values cross the wrap boundary (for example, 359° to 1°).

Raw and virtual time series data types include:

Where time series variables are connected to a platform that is connected to a GPS variable, an alongtrack display as a line or a bubble plot is supported.

Note: Depth-based time series automatically flip the vertical axis (depth increases downward), consistent with echogram displays. This behavior is determined by the time series type.

Time series collection

A set of time series is called a time series collection. A time series collection is displayed in a multi-column table. Echoview supports several time series collection data types.

For further information refer to About time series collection data.

Graphs, tables and alongtrack display

Time series data can be viewed as a graph or a table.

Pairs of time series within a time series collection can be displayed as a scatter plot. Scatter plots show the relationship between simultaneous data points in two time series and do not depend on a platform connection.

Time series linked to a platform that is connected to a GPS variable can be shown as an alongtrack display on a cruisetrack window. For virtual time series derived from a virtual time series collection, the platform association is inherited from the collection.
