New for users of data from Simrad sonars

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 11 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad sonars.

Simrad Ex60 and EK80 CW support for CTD data

Introducing initial support for CTD profile data with ECS settings CtdDepthProfile and SoundSpeedProfile.

These calibration settings may be used to correct Simrad EK60 single beam acoustic data. For further information refer to Using sound speed profile data.

Simrad EK80 support for .xyz files

Echoview now supports the reading of EK80 .xyz files containing sounder-detected bottom information. Existing EV files that use EK80 CW and wideband data files, which also are accompanied by an .xyz file (in the same folder), are automatically updated with new sounder-detected line variables.

Simrad EK80 support of .bot files

Echoview supports the reading of EK80 .bot files. Where both .xyz and .bot files are present, Echoview reads data only from the .bot file.

Simrad SX90 line data depth variable names

Echoview now automatically renames Simrad SX90 line data depth variable names containing "Omni (H-mode)" or "Vertical Slice (V-mode)", e.g "Fileset 1: line data depth INGGA Omni (H-mode)" will become "Fileset 1: line data depth INGGA".

Note: Any scripts dependent on variable names containing "Omni (H-mode)" or "Vertical Slice (V-mode)" will no longer work and should be edited accordingly.

Simrad SX90 color display

The default color display minimum for SX90 data is now set at -120 for both H-mode and V-mode raw Sv variables.

Simrad SX90 bearing angle bug fix

SX90 files containing data with negative bearing angles are now correctly transformed into the range between 0-360 degrees.

Calibration bug fix

Simrad EK80 CW data is now correctly calculated. Previously the inclusion of FrequencyStart and/or FrequencyEnd in an ECS file affected Simrad EK80 CW calculations. The bug fix also ensures that wideband ping calculations use a recalculated Center frequency when FrequencyStart and/or FrequencyEnd change.

Automatic update for NMEA derived line names

An automatic name update is applied to existing EV files that contain line variables derived from INGGA and GPGGA sentences. The update ensures default line name consistency. This design change may affect scripts that use the deprecated line names.

Changes to Echolog and Live viewing

A single new Echolog application replaces Echolog 60 and Echolog 80. This allows compatibility with more echosounder and sonar models. Echolog 60 and Echolog 80 are no longer installed automatically. Echolog 500 remains unaffected by the changes.

Note: While the new Echolog application reads and broadcasts EK60 and EK80 raw data, it does not support EK500 or EK60 compressed data. If you require Echolog 60 or Echolog 80 to be installed, please contact the Echoview support team (support@echoview.com)

SimradEx60 TvgRangeCorrection design change

The equation for SimradEX60 TvgRangeCorrection is changed to the Standard expression. This design change affects these data formats: Simrad Ex60, Ek15, ME70, Ex70 and Sx90. For further information about the design change refer to SimradEx60 TvgRangeCorrection notes and Changes to Simrad Ex60 sample range calculation in Echoview.

Simrad SX90 documentation update

Simrad SC90, SH90, SU90, SX90 Calibration pages are updated for TvgRangeCorrection information.
