Line graph

The Line graph displays values from a Line variable plotted against time. Line variables include both traditional lines (e.g., seafloor, heave, altitude) and motion and navigation line variables derived from platform or vessel data sources (e.g., pitch, roll, heading, speed, length, and distance).

Not to be confused with a Time Series graph: Time Series graphs plot a value (e.g., Sv mean, heading) over time, whereas Line graphs plot the position of a line (e.g., bottom/altitude/heave) over time.

The Line graph automatically applies appropriate labels and units based on the Line variable’s data type. For example, heading is displayed in degrees, speed in meters per second or knots, and traditional lines in meters of depth. Line graphs dynamically adjust axis scaling and units according to the variable's data type.

Use the Graph Properties dialog box to customize axes, labels, gridlines, and display settings.

To display a Line graph

  • On the View menu, point to Graph, then Fileset, then click the desired Line variable.

- OR -

  • In the Dataflow window, do one of the following:
    1. Right-click the Line variable of your choice.
    2. Click Graph on the shortcut menu.

    - OR -

    1. Double-click the Line variable.

To export Line variable data, refer to Exporting line data.

Note: In contrast to Time Series graphs, Line graphs retain the traditional layout with the vertical axis on the left. This helps avoid confusion between the two graph types and supports consistent interpretation for different data displays.
