Simrad Ex60 sample range calculation
Warning: The interpretation of sample range for Ex60 data changed in Echoview 3.30 If you are using EV files created by Echoview 3.25 or earlier you will need to consider the implications of this. See Changes to Simrad Ex60 Sample Range Calculation in Echoview. |
Sample range is calculated on the basis of settings displayed on the Calibration page of the Variable properties dialog box as follows:
Let the samples be numbered 0 to n-1 with sample 0 nearest the transducer. Then:
Ri = T * (i + 1)
where:
Ri = the range to sample number i (m)
T = the thickness of one sample (m) - see notes below.
i = the sample number (0 to n-1)
- The sample thickness is calculated as follows, depending upon the source of the data:
- .raw, .ek60 or .ek6 file:
T = I * c/2 (m)
where
I = the sample interval recorded in the file - for this ping (s)
c = the sound speed displayed on the Calibration page of the Variable properties dialog box (m/s)
- .dg or .ek5 file:
T = c * τ/8000 (m)
where
c = the sound speed displayed on the Calibration page of the Variable Properties dialog box (m/s)
τ = the pulse duration displayed on the Calibration page of the Variable Properties dialog box (ms)
- .raw, .ek60 or .ek6 file:
- the very first sample recorded in an Ex60 data file (.raw, .DG, .ek5, .ek60 or .ek6) is ignored. The second sample is numbered 0, the third sample is numbered 1 and so on. This is necessary because Echoview does not support samples at range 0m (and the first sample recorded in Ex60 data files is at range 0m). See also Simrad Ex500 Sample Range Calculation and About start and stop ranges.
- Support includes a SoundSpeed-Depth profile when available.
