New for users of data from Simrad echosounders

This page summarizes the new features, improvements and other changes that have been implemented in Echoview 7.1 which specifically affect the use of data from Simrad echosounders.

Simrad EK80 *.raw file format

Support continues to expand for *.raw data files from the Simrad EK80 wideband echosounder. Additions in Echoview 7.1 include:

• Read tabulated frequency dependent calibration values from the data file and evaluate values for transducer gain, beam width and Simrad LOBE beam compensation as required by the EK80 raw variables, Single target detection - wideband operator and the Target Frequency Response graph.
  • Support for new calibration settings for instrument calibrated EK80 data: MinorAxisAngleOffsetTableWideband, MajorAxisAngleOffsetTableWideband, MinorAxisBeamWidthTableWideband, MajorAxisBeamWidthTableWideband, FrequencyTableWideband and GainTableWideband.
• A design change for angular position wideband variables means that virtual variables with angular position wideband operands need to be reconnected in the Dataflow window.
• Echoview can read Simrad EK80 Pulse Duration and Beam type values when present in the data file.
• Support for *.raw files recorded by Simrad ES38-7, ES38-10, and ES38-18/200-18C transducers.
• Correction for EK80 CW Sv equation.
• An update for EK80 wideband Sv and CW Sv calculations to use effective pulse length instead of transmitted pulse length.
  • Support for new calibration settings: EffectivePulseLength and PulseCompressedEffectivePulseLength.
• The update for effective pulse length caused a bug for EK80 files containing EK60 data. This type of data is now handled correctly once more.
• Updated TS to Sv and Sv to TS operators to use effective pulse length for EK80 data.
• Echoview reads and uses EK80 CW Sa correction data.

Please note: The correctness of sample values from this data format are still in the process of being verified in this release. Echoview will continue to be updated for any changes that are made to Simrad's EK80 file format as this new technology develops. Please contact support@echoview.com if you have any questions about using EK80 data files in Echoview or suggestions for processing wideband/broadband data.

Target frequency response graph

New Single target detection - wideband Variable Properties settings that specify the size of a target data window for Target Frequency Response graph calculations. In effect, only data inside the data window are used for the graph. The settings are also supported under Echoview COM.

Echosim 80, Echolog 80, Simrad EK80 live viewing

Introducing Echosim 80 and Echolog 80 to enable the live viewing of *.raw data from Simrad EK80 instruments.

Echolog 60 No Activity Warning

We increase Echolog 60 usability with the addition of Settings under No Activity Warning. This allows an Echolog 60 no-activity message to appear in front of active windows.

Simrad SU90 file format support

Introducing support for the Simrad SU90 data format (.raw).
