Adding and removing data files

Adding data files to a fileset

To add data files to a fileset:

  1. Display the Filesets window.
  2. Click the appropriate tab for the fileset.
  3. Click Add to display the Add data Files dialog box.
  4. Select one or more data files (see notes below).
  5. Click Open.

Notes:

  • You can only add data files of one type (file extension) to a fileset. Both Echoview calibration files (*.ecl) and HTI .smp files are an exception to this rule, see Echoview calibration files or Adding HTI .smp files to an Echoview fileset for more information.
  • To select multiple data files, click the first required data file and then do one of the following:
    • to select a range of data files, press SHIFT and click the last required data file.
    • to select individual data files, press CTRL and click each required data file.
  • You can add up to 2000 files to a fileset at a time.
  • Filenames (including full path) are limited to a maximum of 255 characters in length.
  • Before adding data files, you can specify how to derive raw variables and create transducers.

Add data files while creating an EV file

Double-click a data file

Use the Windows file association feature to create a relationship between the Echoview application and a data file extension. Note that some data file extensions may be common for applications other than Echoview.

  1. Click the Windows Start icon, select the Settings icon, select Apps, select Default Apps, select Choose default apps by file type.
  2. Associate a data file extension with Echoview (R).
  3. When finished close the window.

Once data file associations are configured, double-click a selected data file to open add the data file to a fileset of a new EV file in Echoview.

Drag and drop on the Welcome screen

  1. Select one or more files under Windows File Explorer.
  2. Drag and drop the data file(s) on the Echoview Welcome window.

Windows Command line

  1. Click the Windows Search box.
  2. Enter the Echoview.exe path followed by the data file path enclosed in double quotes.
  3. Click Run command. This opens a new instance of Echoview, new EV file and adds the specified data files to a fileset.

Example

C:\Program Files\Echoview Software\Echoview 11.1\Echoview\Echoview.exe "D:\FolderPath\96082826.ELD" "96082827.ELD"

Notes:

  • Data files are added to a fileset in accordance with fileset rules.
  • Microsoft Windows command line arguments are dependent on a character length limit. Echoview continues to use a folder path when subsequent data files are in the same location as the previous data file. See Example (above).
  • Multiple data file names are separated by a space. See Example (above).
  • Multiple data files may be specified using *.FileExtension or *.*
  • Echoview allows the selection of a template, if a template or templates exist.
  • See also Echoexplore - create an EV file with selected data files.

Removing data files from a fileset

To remove data files from a fileset:

  1. Display the Filesets window.
  2. Click the appropriate tab for the fileset.
  3. In the Data files section, select the data file(s) to be removed from the fileset.
  4. Click Remove.

Notes:

  • If you remove all data files from a fileset and then add other data file(s), some settings on the Variable Properties dialog box (e.g. upper and lower display limits) will be retained from the first file that was added to the fileset.
  • When all data files are removed from a fileset, the associated transducer object remains and raw variables become unavailable on the Dataflow window. Open a new EV file if an empty Dataflow window is required.
