Computer requirements

Before installing an Echoview Edition, we recommend that your system complies with the requirements summarized below.

OS (Operating System)
CPU (Central Processing Unit)
System Memory (RAM)
Graphics card
Additional Notes
Minimum
Windows 10
64-bit Edition
Quad core or better
8GB
Dedicated graphics card with at least 512MB of RAM when using 3D visualization

  • USB port for dongle.
  • A display device with a minimum 1024 × 768 pixel resolution.
Recommended
Windows 10
64-bit Edition
8 core or better
32GB or more

Analysis and visualization - Dedicated graphics card with 2GB of RAM or more.

GPU acceleration of machine learning features - A CUDA 11.2 compatible graphics card with 2GB of RAM or more.

  • USB port for dongle.
  • A display device with a minimum 1920 × 1080 pixel resolution.
  • A mouse with scroll wheel and keyboard is recommended.
  • We recommend the use of Solid State Drives (SSD) large enough to store your OS, an Echoview installation, and your data files will provide even greater performance benefit. Otherwise, use a hard disk drive (HDD) that runs at 7200 RPM or faster.

Notes:

  • CPU
    • Faster processors will result in improved performance for tasks such as echo integration that are calculation-intensive.
    • The Echoview code does not contain any optimizations that are specific to a given make or model of processor. However, the features of multi-threaded data reading and multi-threaded operator processing will run optimally when using multi-core processors. This should be considered when making decisions about processing hardware.
    • Echoview supports CPUs produced by both Intel and AMD. See Purchasing a computer - Computer components for more information.
    • Processor technology changes at a rapid rate, please check processor benchmarks as well as clock speed ratings before you make hardware purchasing decisions. If at all possible, test Echoview itself on candidate platforms.
    • The CPU needs to be compatible with Advanced Vector Extension (AVX) instruction set extensions. AVX is required by the Tensorflow.dll which is used by the Machine learning tools.
  • System Memory
  • Graphics card
    • Laptop integrated graphics can result in poor user interface performance. We recommend the use of a dedicated graphics card even when not using 3D visualizations.
    • The 4D window uses DirectX 9.0c (Shader Model 3) Application Programming Interface (API) and associated graphics driver. Graphics cards with a higher DirectX capability which includes the DirectX 9.0c driver are acceptable.
    • Scenes use OpenGL. Graphics card support for the Open Graphics Library Application Programming Interface (API) is common and should be available on all modern graphics cards.
    • Some graphics cards may have an onboard GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) which may improve display performance. GPU acceleration of machine learning features requires a CUDA 11.2 compatible graphics card.  CUDA 11.2 requires a graphics card that supports NVIDIAs Compute Capability 3.5 – 8.6.
NVIDIA provide Compute Capability information of GTX, RTX and Quadro devices on this page https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus.
    • Updating to the latest driver for your graphics card is strongly recommended.
  • Internet Explorer
    • It is possible to view Echoview WebHelp with browsers other than Internet Explorer however some HTML features may not render as intended.
    • Note: The installation of Internet Explorer 11 or greater is required to correctly display the Welcome to Echoview window and the Echoview.chm file. If the Welcome to Echoview window or Echoview.chm file display or function incorrectly please consult with your system administrator and ensure Internet Explorer has not be removed from your device.
  • When live viewing you may need to configure Windows folder/file sharing.
  • After installing Echoview we recommend that you run Echoview once using Run as Administrator (right-click on the Echoview icon on your desktop, in your Start menu or in the folder where Echoview is installed, and then click Run As Administrator). This action will register the Echoview Automation Library (Echoview COM).
  • If you have trouble using Echoview on your system contact Echoview for assistance.
  • For VirtualBox users, see our Solutions to common problems page for more information about possible start up errors.
