Importing raster images
Echoview allows you to import raster image files (e.g. aerial photos, graphics/photos of landmarks, side scan data, maps, etc. ) into an EV file.
Note: This page does not cover creating raster images from C_MAP databases, see About raster images.
Once you have imported a raster image you can:
-
add it to a scene, i.e. view the image with 3D objects as part of a scene
-
color a surface, i.e. overlay the image on a surface
To import a raster image into Echoview:
-
On the File menu, click Import.
-
In the Files of type list, click:
-
3D image formats (to list all raster images in the folder), or
-
a specific image type e.g. JPEG (*.jpg, *.jpeg) (to list raster images of a given type).
-
Select the raster image file to import and click Open.
-
If the ESRI World File Interpretation dialog box is displayed
-
click Ignore file (to ignore the georeferencing data that has been read by Echoview), or
-
click OK (to accept the georeferencing data that has been read by Echoview).
-
- OR -
If the GeoTIFF File Interpretation dialog box is displayed:
- click Skip (to ignore the georeferencing data in the file being imported, and enter the appropriate coordinates manually), or
- click OK (to accept the georeferencing data that has been read from the GeoTIFF file).
-
On the Import 3D Raster Image dialog box: enter the latitude (or northing), longitude (or easting), and depth coordinates at which each corner of the raster image should be positioned; select a transparent display color (if any); and click Import.
Note: If you clicked OK in step 4, the geographic position values have been read in from an ESRI world file or GeoTIFF file. -

You can change the properties of an imported raster image on the 3D Object Properties dialog box.
