New in Echoview 4.00 for all users

Welcome to Echoview 4.00!

We are very pleased to announce the release of Echoview version 4.00. We have rebuilt the foundations of Echoview's user interface and internal code so that Echoview can change rapidly and flexibly into the future. The development of a new suite of user interface features as well more modern handling of windows and toolbars are the first products of this transition.

New features are presented in two categories:

New features for all users
New features for users of specific echosounders

User interface enhancements

These enhancements give you better control over Echoview's workspace. They make your work easier by giving you easily accessible information about your data.

  • A new graphical user interface that takes full advantage of familiar Microsoft Windows functions. All the familiar tools plus new toolbars with new tools and new icons. And new windows that float, dock and resize in the Echoview workspace.
  • A Details dialog box that displays information about the data you are pointing to.
  • Go directly to a ping number on an echogram by typing its number, for quick navigation.
  • Assign a short name for a variable to use in the Variables and Geometry window and on Window tabs.
  • The frequency is added to the echogram title, where it is available.
  • In previous versions of Echoview, the first fileset was called the Primary fileset. From Echoview 4.00 onwards the first fileset is called Fileset1.

Multiple instances of Echoview

Run multiple copies of Echoview simultaneously (configurable on the Startup page of the Echoview Configuration dialog box).. This allows you to make better use of multiple or multi-core processor arrangements.

Support for new file formats

This release introduces support for a number of new file formats. Echoview becomes more versatile by handling data from an even wider range of echosounders.

  • For those who work with single beam targets we introduce support of the .csv single beam target data format. This will allow you to use single targets from other sources (by writing your own .csv files and adding them to an EV file) and allow you to edit your single target data (for manual fine tuning of the data where needed, by exporting your single targets, editing the .csv file, and adding it to an EV file again)
  • New support for the Kaijo KFS (Kaijo Fish Species identification) echosounder data files. Analyze Sv, angular position and position data.
  • New support for Kongsberg EM710 data files. Analyze Sv, unspecified dB, position and heading data.
  • New support for RESON 7000 series (*.s7k) data files. You will require a RESON 7000 series module license to use these data files.

Improved live viewing functionality

These enhancements and features make live viewing easier to use.

  • The new Live viewing dialog box allows you to manage live viewing. You can now start and stop live viewing as many times as you wish.
  • Echogram curtains under live update now have a curtain time window limiting their length so as not to unnecessarily obscure your scenes during a survey. The curtain time window defaults to 60 minutes but can be chosen to suit your needs.

Multibeam replay enhancement

This enhancement allows you to select the replay rate for multibeam echograms. Replaying at your computer system's limits can improve the display of pings (particularly if your computer cannot display the data as quickly as the echosounder could log it).

Enhanced error reporting for EVL files

EVL file error reporting has been enhanced, now providing descriptions for problems such as missing data, invalid date or invalid line status, together with relevant line and column numbers.
