About intersections

Echoview uses the intersection between various objects in different ways to support the analysis of data.

On single beam echograms

On single beam echograms there is a method of analysis which operates upon the intersection between regions and cells. See About region-cell intersections for further information.

Currently the intersection between single beam echograms and other 3D objects is visible only in scenes.

On multibeam echograms

On multibeam echograms it is possible to view the intersection of each ping with specific 3D objects. Each ping is represented in 3D space by a plane with no thickness which can be visualized in a scene as a multibeam ping curtain. Where this plane cuts through other 3D objects is known as the intersection and it is marked on multibeam echograms in the following way:

3D object type

Intersection visible by ...

Intersection is visible as ...

Surface

Select the surfaces you would like to see on the Surfaces page of the Variable Properties dialog box.

A line on the echogram.

The default color is yellow, but it is determined by the selected color scheme (the defined Good line color is used - it is set on the Lines page of the Echocolor Palette properties dialog box).

See About surface-ping intersections for more information.

3D Region

Select the 3D Regions you would like to see on the Regions page of the Variable Properties dialog box.

A border with cross hatching on the echogram.

The default colors are black border and yellow hatching, otherwise the colors are determined by the selected color scheme (the defined Analysis region border color and Analysis region fill color are used - they are set on the Regions page of the Echocolor Palette properties dialog box).

See About region-ping intersections for more information.
