New in Echoview 2.25

Echoview 2.25 introduces two new modules, many enhancements to the Fish Tracking module and other enhancements to the base, live-viewing and virtual echogram modules. Many performance enhancements have also been made in Echoview 2.25 to speed up echogram viewing and processing.

Note:

Some important changes have been made to exported integration variables. See Changes to exports.

New Modules

Scripting module

The new Scripting module allows you to write scripts for automating export tasks in Echoview. Export tasks from multiple EV files and multiple variables can be run by simply running a script. Example scripts are provided and a script log is created detailing any errors encountered while the script was running.

See Using the Scripting module (deprecated scripting model for Echoview 5.0) and Example scripts for details.

Echolog 60 module

The new Echolog 60 module is for use with Simrad's EK60, ES60 and EQ60. It allows data to be live-viewed in Echoview while it is being logged. This makes it possible to view data in Echoview in real time and process data during surveys.

Data compression of .RAW (and .OUT) files into Echoview's own data file format, .ek60, is also possible. Echolog 60 has the potential to reduce data storage of EK60 files by more than 90%. The compression settings give you the ability to set the depth range to store, choose whether to store power and angle data, and reduce data resolution by averaging samples below SV and TS limits. Data compression can be performed during live-viewing, while logging data, or after .RAW files have been logged.

A new program Echodepth is designed to display the sounder-detected bottom depth during logging. Echodepth can be used with either Echolog 60 or Echolog 500.

Note:

The Echolog module from version 2.20 and earlier is now referred to as the Echolog 500 module.

Fish tracking module enhancements

New alpha-beta tracking algorithm

A new tracking algorithm based on Blackman's alpha-beta trajectory algorithm has been incorporated into the Fish Tracking module.

See About detecting fish tracks and the Track Detection Properties dialog box for details.

New region type for Fish Tracks

Fish tracks created by using the Detect Fish Tracks function and in fish track editing mode are automatically assigned the region type: Fish track. In Echoview 2.20 they were treated as Integration-type regions.

Fish tracks created in Echoview 2.20 will automatically be updated to Fish track region type when an EV file is opened in Echoview 2.25.

Fish track regions are displayed in a variety of colors for easy visualisation.

2D projections graph

The new 2D projections graph in Echoview 2.25 displays 4 graphs of single target detections and track details.

Fish track editing enhancements

  • Improved ease of selection of tracks and targets

  • Delete all regions within a selection

  • Merge tracks in a selection

  • Create a track from targets in a selection

And many more editing options

See Fish Track editing for details

Fish track analysis by cells

Export Analysis of Fish tracks by Cells - allows for post-processing calculation of flux. Each fish track region is analyzed and exported with a cell identification. A cell is defined by a range and time/distance grid.

Single target filtering

Filter single targets by:

  • Minimum and maximum angles

  • Gain compensation

  • Pulse length (where applicable)

in all appropriate single target variables.

See the Data page of the Variable Properties dialog box for more details.

HTI .ech file support

HTI *.ech files are now supported in Echoview and can be imported into EV files with matching HTI *.raw files. Fish tracks present in *.ech files are displayed and treated as fish track regions in Echoview for easy processing and analysis.

HTI echosounder support fully released

HTI data file support was introduced in Echoview 2.20 as a BETA release. Echoview 2.25 now offers full HTI data file support including fast multiplexed files and *.ECH files.

Single target pulse properties

Single target pulse properties are output when an export of single targets from a region or selection is performed. See Single target pulse properties for details.

Other enhancements to Echoview

Import Virtual Variables

It is now possible to import all of the virtual variable definitions from one EV file into another. This is particularly helpful if you wish to add the same virtual variables to a number of existing EV files.

See Importing Virtual variables for more details

Regions window

A new Regions window has been introduced into Echoview that lists all regions and their region properties. The Regions window allows you to synchronize your open echograms to a particular region, allowing you to find regions easily. It is also possible to change some Region Properties and delete regions from the new Regions window.

To view the Regions window, choose Regions from the View menu when an echogram is in focus.

Automatic extension of bottom lines in live-viewing

Bottom lines will automatically extend as new data is received while live viewing.

See Using live viewing and Line Properties dialog box for more details.

Alternate color schemes

Color schemes in Echoview can now be designed to toggle between two different color schemes at the touch of a key. This allows greater flexibility in the visualisation of your data. See About Color schemes for details.

More virtual variables possible

The Copy operator and Ping time shift operator now accept a single target variable for easier creation of virtual single target variables.

Sa correction on EK60 calibration page

Sa correction has been included on the Calibration page for EK60 and ES60 data.

Improved Line Picking

The Line pick algorithm in Echoview 2.25 allows you to set start and stop depths for better line picking, especially when transducer ring down is present in your data. See the new Line Pick page and Line picking for details.

Changes to exports

Further changes have been made to output analysis variables in Echoview 2.25:

  • NASC, ABC, CHeight, NASC_noise, ABC_noise and Area_backscatter_strength can no longer be output for an Integration by Regions by Cells as the values that were output were not useful or relevant. These values are still output for Integration by Regions and Integration by Cells.

  • PRC_NASC and PRC_ABC can only be output for an Integration by Regions by Cells. They can no longer be output for Integration by Regions or Integration by Cells.
