Multiple Object Properties dialog box

The Multiple Object Properties dialog box allows you to view and edit a single property across multiple selected objects of compatible types, simultaneously. Objects may include raw and virtual acoustic variables, time series variables, and exporters. Properties are grouped into categories and property page names listed along the left-hand panel. After selecting a property, you can view current values and assign new values for all applicable variables.

Key features include:

  • Quick access buttons to apply default, maximum or minimum values.
  • Checkboxes to indicate which objects a change should apply to.
  • Context-sensitive filtering that only displays properties relevant to the selected objects.

To view and modify multiple variable property settings

You can open the Multiple Object Properties dialog box using any of the following methods:

  1. From the Dataflow window: Select multiple objects (e.g., use the mouse to draw a selection over desired objects or Ctrl-click each object), then right-click and select Variable Properties (F8)* from the shortcut menu.
  2. From the Objects List: Highlight objects of the same type (within the same category), right-click and select Variable Properties (F8)*.
  3. From the Filesets window: Ctrl-click to highlight multiple objects from the list, then right-click and select Variable Properties (F8)*.

*Note: Depending on the object types selected, this could also be Time Series Properties, Exporter Properties, or Object Properties. All share the same shortcut (F8).

Supported properties by object type

The following table outlines the categories supported in the Multiple Object Properties dialog box and their associated property pages (categories appear in the left-hand panel). The availability of specific pages depends on the selected objects.

Property pages available

Exporter

The Exporter category lists general exporter properties pages that are shared by the selected exporters.

Exporter operator

The Exporter operator category lists specific operator properties pages of the selected exporters.

Analysis exporters:

Measurements exporters:

Time series operator

The Time series operator category lists specfic operator properties pages of selected time series variables.

Variable

The Variable category lists the general variable properties pages of the selected data flow objects (time series, lines, variables or virtual variables).

Variable operator

The Variable operator category lists the specific properties pages of selected virtual variables.

See list of operators for more information.

When a property is selected from the left-hand panel, modifications can be made in the right-hand panel:

Description

Value

This is where you define a new value to apply to the selected objects. Initially, Value displays the value from the first applicable (non-greyed) object.

  1. Object checkboxes are initially cleared—you must select which objects to apply the new value to.
  2. Enter a Value.
  3. Click OK or Apply to use the New Value in all the selected objects.

Depending on the selected property, the input control may appear as one of the following:

  • Textbox for numeric values (e.g., pixels). Example (click to enlarge):
  • Checkbox for boolean properties (e.g., true/false). Example (click to enlarge):

When a property uses a boolean value (True/False), a checkbox is shown beside a label. If the box is checked, the value reads true. If the box is unchecked, the value reads false.

This label updates immediately when toggled, even before you click Apply or OK. This dynamic feedback simply reflects the state of the checkbox and does not mean the value has been committed yet.

  • Value list for a list of options (e.g., "Tiles", "None"). Example (click to enlarge):
  • Color picker for color-based properties (e.g., grid colors). Click the value box to open a color selection dialog. Example (click to enlarge):

Note: Units (e.g., meters, pixels, dB) are shown in parentheses where applicable.

Select objects to modify

This section lists all objects currently selected for bulk editing.

Each object is displayed with a checkbox that determines whether the selected property setting will be applied to it.

  • All object checkboxes are initially cleared. Select the objects you want to apply the new value to.
  • Objects that don’t support the selected property appear greyed out and cannot be selected.
  • Each row shows the Current Value and the New Value (after editing).

To apply a new property value to an object, ensure its checkbox is selected.

The All button selects the checkbox of all the listed objects.

The None button clears the checkbox of all the listed objects.

Quick Access Values

Quick Access buttons provide a shortcut to insert standard values without manually typing them.

  • Default: Resets the property to the system default.
  • Minimum: Inserts the minimum allowed value (if applicable).
  • Maximum: Inserts the maximum allowed value (if applicable).

Click one of these buttons to populate the Value and New Value column with the selected Quick access value.

If a quick access value is not available (e.g., for text fields or non-numeric properties), the corresponding button is disabled.

Notes:

  • When your selection includes both single beam and multibeam variables, some properties are unavailable and appear disabled (for example, Exclude above line or surface and Exclude below line or surface).
  • If you edit a property but no objects are selected, Echoview shows a warning and no changes are made. Select one or more objects and click Apply (or OK) to commit the change.
  • Only properties supported for bulk editing will appear in the dialog. Unsupported properties are filtered out automatically and appear greyed out.
  • Some system-managed or auto-calculated settings (for example, Auto Display Limits, Lower Display Limit, and Upper Display Limit on Echogram/4D Display) are intentionally read-only and unavailable in the Multiple Object Properties dialog to prevent unexpected results.
  • An error will appear if the entered value is outside the allowed range.
  • For interdependent properties (e.g., Lower Display Limit must be less than Upper Display Limit), Echoview checks for logical consistency only when you click OK or Apply.
  • If any selected variable contains an invalid value when applying changes, a message will prompt you to exclude it. You can then fix the value or proceed with changes for the other variables.
  • Dynamic name and Name are unavailable when editing multiple objects. To use the Dynamic name or Name features, edit objects individually.
  • When a property has the same name on more than one selected object, the Multiple Object Properties dialog behaves as follows:
    • Identical domains: If the value type (single or multiple), units, min/max (or allowed options), and default are identical, the property can be edited for all selected objects on a single page (no list of options).
    • Different domains: If any of those differ, a list of oprtions appears at the top of the page listing the applicable objects. Choosing one shows that object’s limits/options and temporarily disables the mutually exclusive objects in the list.
    • Unsupported types: Properties that require array values (for example, color arrays used by “3 color maximum”) are blocked/greyed out.
