About 3D Regions

3D regions are 3D objects that can be viewed in scenes and multibeam echograms. They can be used to represent fish schools or any other feature useful in a 3D scene.

There are several ways to create a 3D region in Echoview. See Creating 3D Objects: 3D regions.

A 3D region is region of 3D space enclosed by a surface. It is represented by triangulated irregular networks. A 3D region may also have vacuoles.

A 3D region's (common) object properties and specific 3D region metrics can be found under the Further information section of the General page of the 3D Object Properties dialog box. A 3D region's bounding box and its orientation are two such metrics. The Size criteria dimensions of a 3D School detection expresses the minimum size for the bounding box of a detected school.

3D regions are regions of dimension - 3D and type - Analysis with a user specified region class. They can be viewed or managed with the:

Display

Multibeam echogram

You can see the intersection with 3D regions on multibeam echograms. Use the Regions window to synchronize 3D regions on multibeam echograms.

To delete a 3D region from a multibeam echogram display the Shortcut menu (right-click) and select Delete Selected Region.

Use 3D region synchronization on multibeam echograms through active 3D regions in Regions window.

Note: Bottom surfaces are not 3D regions (a 3D region is defined as a region of 3D space enclosed by a surface).

Scene

In a scene you can view a 3D region and choose to display the region's bounding box. Use a 3D curtain to view the intersection with 3D regions on scenes.

To delete a 3D region from a scene (and the EV file) display the Shortcut menu (right-click) and select Delete Region.

Integrate

Within a scene, 3D regions can be used as an analysis domain where you can integrate the 3D region and view the results on screen.

Export

3D regions can be exported to the *.wrl format and viewed in a 3D environment using a VRML viewer.

3D regions can be exported to *.csv format where common 3D object properties and 3D region metrics can be analyzed outside of Echoview.

3D regions integration results can be exported to *.csv format. In this case, common 3D object properties, 3D region metrics and integration results can be analyzed outside of Echoview.
