Licenses and demonstration mode
The use of Echoview is covered by the Echoview End User License Agreement. Echoview features are licensed by module. Limited Echoview features are available in demonstration mode for unlicensed modules. An Evaluation license and dongle are available to explore Echoview licensed features. For further information about modules or licenses please contact: info@echoview.com.
To determine which modules you are licensed to use:
- On the Help menu, click About Echoview

Echoview features under licensed modules
The following is a list of Echoview modules and the features offered under a licensed module.
Note: Licensed module features are supplemented by the limited features from unlicensed modules available under demonstration mode.
Licensed module |
Operation/feature |
Limitations without the module (unless included by another module) |
Read and display echograms from supported echosounder and sonar data files. Detect the bottom line/bottom surface, and define other reference lines, surfaces and regions. Create 3D digital terrain models of the seabed and 3D displays of mapped data. Calculate calibration corrections, perform quality control, conduct analyses on data, and export results for use elsewhere. Use operators licensed by the Essentials module (see Operator licensing in Echoview). Import of geo-referenced image files as raster images. Print echograms, cruise tracks and other windows. Notes:
|
Can't integrate, analyze, export, print, or use lines or regions. Can use virtual echograms in demonstration mode only (see Advanced Operators). |
|
Read data and display echograms from supported systems. Save echograms as image files. Annotate echograms using regions, and export annotation logs. Display and explore echograms, cruise tracks and 3D curtains from existing supported data files, or in real-time from selected Simrad, BioSonics, Sound Metrics and Kongsberg echosounders and sonars. Includes a license for Echoexplore, a tool to catalog and view hydroacoustic data files Can use the Live Export operator (when Essentials is also licensed). Can use the Calibration Assistant (when Essentials is also licensed). Can use 2D school detection while live viewing (when School Detection is also licensed). Print echograms, cruise tracks and other windows. |
Can't use live viewing, lines or regions.
|
|
Detect and analyze submerged aquatic vegetation in single- and split-beam data, then export results. Detect, analyze, and classify the bottom substrate in single- and split-beam data for seabed characterization and habitat mapping purposes, then view and export classification results. Use of operators licensed by the Habitat Classification module (see Operator licensing in Echoview).
|
Can view bottom classification variables. Can't detect, analyze or export bottom classification data. Can't export vegetation analysis data.
Can use virtual echograms in demonstration mode only (see Advanced Operators). |
|
Automate data processing using a language of your choice (COM interface supplied). Note: The Echoview COM object must be registered. |
Can't use the Echoview COM interface. |
|
Manipulate your data by creating new echograms from existing ones using advanced operators and algorithms. Compare frequencies, mitigate noise and other unwanted backscatter, classify data, interpret, and apply Python source files, and more. Exceptions: Use of operators licensed by the Essentials, Habitat Classification, Fish Tracking and Multibeam Fish Tracking module.
Export data from operators licensed with the Advanced Operators module. Note: In a virtual variable chain, the final variable in the chain is subject to the licensing conditions of any previous operators in the chain. Note: Also refer to Operator licensing in Echoview. |
Only can create and view virtual echograms. Can't export analyses of any kind from virtual echograms. Can't use the Code operator. Exceptions: The above limitations do not apply to operators licensed by the Essentials, Habitat Classification, Fish Tracking, Multibeam Fish Tracking modules. |
|
Detect and analyze the tracks of individual fish and other targets in single and split beam data. Count fish and examine their behavior over time. Use of operators licensed by the Fish Tracking module (see Operator licensing in Echoview). Export fish track analyses. Export data from operators licensed with Fish Tracking. Note: In a virtual variable chain, the final variable in the chain is subject to the licensing conditions of any previous operators in the chain. |
Can't detect, edit or analyze fish tracks. Can use virtual echograms in demonstration mode only (see Advanced Operators). |
|
Detect and analyze fish schools or bubble aggregations in single- and split-beam data. |
Can't detect 2D schools. |
|
Detect, track, and analyze individual fish targets in data from multibeam systems, including imaging sonars. Fish tracking in data from single- and split-beam systems is included Use of operators licensed with the Multibeam Fish Tracking module (see Operator licensing in Echoview). Export data from operators licensed with Multibeam Fish Tracking. Note: In a virtual variable chain, the final variable in the chain is subject to the licensing conditions of any previous operators in the chain. |
Can't detect, edit or analyze fish tracks from multibeam data. Can't create or use manual target length. Can use virtual echograms in demonstration mode only (see Advanced Operators). |
|
Detect, track, and analyze fish schools or bubble aggregations in data from multibeam systems 2D school detection on virtual variables derived from multibeam data (Maximum intensity, Beam select, Angle select operators). Export of region inspection data. Export of 3D regions from scenes to geo-referenced image files. |
Can't detect, track or analyze 3D schools.

Demonstration mode
The use of any feature in Echoview is subject to module licensing. Where a module is unlicensed, some limited features may be available under demonstration mode.
The lack of an enforced limitation in demonstration mode does not imply the right to use a feature. Please consult the limitation summary (below) if in doubt.
All modules unlicensed
The title bar of the Echoview window under demonstration mode displays Echoview - (Demonstration use only).
Without a license dongle you can do the following:
Operation/feature |
Restriction |
Read and view all supported data formats View supported video and image data |
All variables limited to 500 measurements. |
Use virtual echograms (operators) |
Can't use the Code operator. |
